The goal of this Digital Forensic Research Workshop challenge is to design and develop data carving algorithms that identify more files and reduce the number of false positives.

Although the challenge is over, the disk image is still available along with the layout and all submissions.

There were a number of scenarios presented in the creation of the disk image.

  • HTML files with ASCII text, both fragmented and non-fragmented.
  • Microsoft Office documents, both fragmented and non-fragmented.
  • JPEG images, both fragmented and non-fragmented as well as very large and intertwined.
  • ZIP files, both fragmented and non-fragmented.
